Different Types Of Basketball Violations

Violations can be committed by both the offense and defense. Here are those:

Violations committed by the offense:
Walk trips or violation - is committed when the ball handler takes too many steps without dribbling the ball. This usually happens after rebound, after receiving the ball from the pass, and in making a move to drive toward the basket.
Backcourt violation or on-and-back - is committed when the player holding the ball over the middle of the right line and then back to the rear garden. This happens when the player right from the front gives the ball to his teammate in the backcourt.
Double Dribble - is an offense where the ball handler. This offense is committed when the player dribbles with both hands or if the player dribbles, holds the ball and starts dribbling again.
Offensive Foul - is committed when the ball handler attacks to the basket and deliberately hits the defending player with an established position.
Offensive Goaltending - is called when the player tries to interfere with the ball while on the edge or on the way to the basket. If this happens, the basket will not count.
Five-second inbound violation - happens if the inbounder is unable to pass the ball to his teammate after 5 seconds.
Three-Second Violation - is called when the attacker remains in the paint for 3 seconds.
Ten-second backcourt violation - is committed when the attacking team is unable to stabbing the ball into the middle of the court within 10 seconds.

Violations committed by a defender:
Foul - is called against the defensive player if he makes an illegal contact with the ball handler. An error may also be called, even if the player is away from the ball. An error can be caused blocking, holding, pushing, bumping and stumbling.
Intentional Foul - is a deliberate error is used for the clock to stop the opponent or to send to the free throw line.
Goaltending - is a violation where the defending player interferes with the ball on his way down to the basket or while on the rim, whether it is or not to go. The ball counts if goaltending is called.
Illegal Defense - is also called 3-second defensive violation. It is used to keep the defending team to use the zone defense.
